Three police officers arrested in Nairobi CBD after collecting Sh48,000 bribe in two hours
The officers, identified as Corporal Oscar Serem Biwott, Constable Simon Kiplagat Nyunyutik, and Constable Edwin Benedict Mubweka, were caught red-handed on Wednesday morning at the Globe Cinema roundabout.
Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) have arrested three police officers accused of extorting bribes from motorists and civilians in Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD).
The officers, identified as Corporal Oscar Serem Biwott, Constable Simon Kiplagat Nyunyutik, and Constable Edwin Benedict Mubweka, were caught red-handed on Wednesday morning at the Globe Cinema roundabout.

According to the EACC, the trio had collected Sh48,250 in bribes within just two hours.
Following their arrest, the officers who were stationed at the Central Police Station were escorted to the EACC headquarters at Integrity Centre to record statements.
“Following numerous complaints from motorists, bodaboda riders, and the general public regarding traffic police officers extorting money from motorists at Globe Cinema roundabout in the guise of traffic law enforcement, the Commission conducted investigations on several days and confirmed the allegations,” EACC stated.
The anti-corruption body confirmed that the three suspects are currently being detained at Kilimani Police Station as they await arraignment.
As part of broader efforts to tackle corruption within law enforcement, the EACC says it has partnered with the National Police Service (NPS) to conduct a comprehensive audit of police operations. They aim to identify and address systemic weaknesses that facilitate corruption in the country’s policing practices.
“We are committed to ensuring that law enforcement agencies operate with integrity and professionalism. Traffic corruption is a major concern, and we will continue taking firm action against officers engaging in these unethical practices,” EACC stated.
