Sakaja said he will be firm on the order to tame the hawkers who have taken over most of the main streets in the CBD preventing even residents from walking and cars from passing through.
"There will be no hawking on the roads. Kutandika vitu kwa barabara (displaying their wares on the roads)...Zero! That one we will not have. That is an irreducible minimum even for their own safety," Sakaja said.
"We will not have any hawking on the roads. We will start enforcing it from tomorrow morning in the CBD "
The governor cited Tom Mboya Avenue, Moi Avenue, Muthurwa and the Bus Station terminus.
"I want to make it clear that on Moi Avenue and Tom Mboya, there will be no hawking. We have a plan for that area and investors have brought in money. I'm also looking out for the commuters of CBD who use that lane, Sakaja added.
Sakaja at the same time directed the enforcement officers to be firm in dealing with the hawkers to restore dignity in the city streets.
"You must be confident, you must be firm and fair. A rule is a rule. The rules must apply to everyone," Sakaja said.
