One resident, Mary, expresses her concern, saying, "We appreciate that the drainage needed clearing, but dumping the filth on the roadside is just transferring the problem. It's a breeding ground for diseases, and we fear for our health and that of our children."
The unpleasant odour emanating from the accumulated waste is another major concern. A fruit vendor, Fatma, shares her experience, "The smell is unbearable. I had to move from my usual stall to a different location, generously accommodated by my sister who sells street foods. It's affecting our livelihoods, and we need urgent action."
Business owners are also feeling the impact of the unattended filth. A wholesale shop owner, Ahmed, laments, "The dumped waste has blocked the entrance to my shop. Customers are turning away, and it's hurting our business. We pay hefty license fees to the city council, and in return, we expect a clean and conducive environment for our businesses to thrive."
The situation highlights the need for a comprehensive waste management strategy and immediate action from local authorities to address both the short-term issue of the dumped filth and the long-term challenge of maintaining a clean and healthy environment in Eastleigh. Residents and business owners are urging the county to prioritize their well-being and livelihoods, emphasizing the importance of effective and responsible waste disposal practices.
