Rita Tinina to be buried on Wednesday next week in Narok

Her death has left a void in the journalism community, with colleagues mourning the loss of a talented and dedicated professional.

The late NTV journalist Rita Tinina, who succumbed to Pneumonia, will be laid to rest on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at her family residence in Noosupeni Farm Olokirikirai in Narok County.

Her family will, however, first hold a requiem mass in her memory on Monday, next week at 10 am, at the Holy Family Basilica Cathedral in Nairobi. 

The body will then be transported to Nakuru, before being ferried to Narok for her burial.

"The cortege leaves Umash Funeral Home Nakuru on March 27, 2024, at 7.00 am for the funeral Service and burial at their home, Noosupeni Farm Olokirikirai, Narok County starting at 10.00 am,” her obituary reads. 

Currently, funeral arrangement meetings are being held at the All Saint's Cathedral in Nairobi, too, from 5:30 pm. 

Tinina passed away on Sunday, March 17 at her house in Kileleshwa. Her body was found in her room by her house girl. 

A police report released on the same day disclosed that Tinina, 46, suffered from epilepsy and was nursing a five-day-old fever. The report cited her health history as divulged by her sister, Helen Silau Njaga.

An autopsy conducted on her body further revealed that she died of severe pneumonia.

Tinina has been eulogised by notable leaders including President William Ruto and opposition leader Raila Odinga as a beacon of journalistic excellence, whose impactful stories and remarkable reporting skills kept them tuned to the news.

In her obituary, her family added "She was the beloved daughter of the late Dominic and late Mary Yiapan. Devoted mother of Mia Malaikah and loving partner of Robert Nagila.

"She illuminated the lives of her grand niece and nephew Skylar and Shaqiri, with boundless love and affection. Rita's warmth and kindness touched the lives of many as a niece, cousin, friend, colleague and journalist."

Tinina’s career started at NTV, where she honed her skills before moving to the Standard Media Group in December 2002. She served as a senior political affairs reporter at Standard Media Group’s KTN and returned to NTV in October 2023, taking up the role of output producer for broadcast platforms.

She leaves behind her daughter, Mia Malaikah and partner Robert Nagila.
