KeNHA also assured the public that repairs were already underway to address any damage caused by the flooding.

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has reopened the Kamulu-Kangundo (B63) Road following a temporary closure. On Thursday, May 2, 2024, KENHA released a statement reassuring the public of the road's safety.

"We are pleased to inform the public that the Kamulu-Kangundo (B63) Road has been reopened. This decision follows the receding of floodwaters at Joska, a section of the highway that was submerged due to heavy rainfall," stated KeNHA.

KeNHA has however stressed the need for motorists to remain vigilant, particularly at the Joska section, due to the risk of residual flooding from stormwater upstream of the Athi River.

"Motorists are advised to exercise caution when approaching this section, as there is still a risk of flooding due to stormwater upstream of the Athi River," added KeNHA.

KeNHA also assured the public that repairs were already underway to address any damage caused by the flooding.

"The Authority is actively conducting minor repairs to address the damage caused by the flooding, after ensuring the bridge's structural integrity. We remain committed to ensuring uninterrupted connectivity to facilitate the safe passage of goods and services for economic prosperity. At KeNHA, your safety is our paramount concern," said KeNHA.

The road was closed on Wednesday evening, when the Authority announced that heavy rainfall upstream had led to flooding in a specific section of the road, rendering the bridge unsafe for travel. KeNHA advised road users to avoid the affected area.

The Authority warned motorists and pedestrians against any attempts to use this impacted part of the road.

KeNHA on Wednesday encouraged the public to be patient and wait for the water levels to recede, allowing the Authority to conduct bridge inspections and ensure safe passage.

They provided alternative routes for motorists to reach their destinations safely. For those traveling towards Joska-Kamulu, the recommended route was via Joska-Koma-Kaloleni-Mua Interchange-Cabanas-Ruai-Kamulu.

Those heading towards Kamulu-Joska were advised to take the Kamulu-Ruai-Cabanas-Mua Interchange-Kaloleni-Koma-Joska route.
