Sheikh Jamaludin Osman Haji appointed Imam of Nairobi's Jamia Mosque

His thirst for knowledge took him to the prestigious University of Madinah in 2007, where he obtained a diploma in Arabic studies followed by a bachelor's degree in Hadith in 2014.

Sheikh Jamaludin Osman Haji has been appointed as the new Imam of the iconic Jamia Mosque in Nairobi.

Born on July 20, 1986, Sheikh Jamaludin's journey to the esteemed position reflects a life dedicated to scholarship and service.



Sheikh Jamaludin's upbringing was marked by a commitment to education and faith.

His father, the late Osman Haji Jama, a renowned international businessman, and his mother, instilled in him the values of discipline and dedication.

While speaking to The Eastleigh Voice, he extended heartfelt thanks to his mother, who sacrificed her gold ornaments to fund his journey for Umrah in Makkah and to attend an interview at the University of Madinah after several attempts,"I want to commend my mother for encouraging me to delve into religious studies, despite facing pressure from my family members to pursue medicine career."

Sheikh Jamaludin's educational journey began at a Christian school, St Augustine Preparatory in Mombasa, where he excelled academically and sat for his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) in the year 2000.

His passion for Islamic studies led him to be among the first students at the Abu Huraira Academy in Mombasa.

After completing his secondary education with a B plain in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) in the year 2004, Sheikh Jamaludin embarked on a path of Quranic memorisation under the tutelage of the esteemed Qari Hussein at Baitul Maal in Eastleigh in 2005 until 2006.

Later, his thirst for knowledge took him to the prestigious University of Madinah in 2007, where he obtained a diploma in Arabic studies followed by a bachelor's degree in Hadith in 2014.

Throughout his academic journey, Sheikh Jamaludin distinguished himself as a diligent and dedicated student.

Returning to Kenya, Sheikh Jamaludin actively engaged in various educational and leadership roles.

From serving as the Managing Director of his family's business in Mombasa to his tenure as headmaster at Markaz Noor, Sparki, Mombasa in 2015, he demonstrated a commitment to community development and education.

In 2018, he landed a new job as a Supervisor at RAF International University, Mombasa Branch where he served in the position in 2019.

Later in 2019, he served as the head teacher at the Islamic Department at Deenway International School, Mombasa County.

In October 2019, Sheikh Jamaludin assumed the role of deputy Imam at Jamia Mosque, a position he held with distinction until this year, when he was officially appointed as the Imam, succeeding the late Imam Muhammad Swalihu.

Known for his youthful energy and profound scholarship, Sheikh Jamaludin expressed gratitude for his appointment, attributing his success to the Almighty and his late father, who provided him with a strong foundation of upbringing and education.
