Thika Road has fully reopened to traffic following the successful completion and installation of a new footbridge at Juja Highpoint (Centurion).
In a notice issued on Wednesday, the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) announced this milestone after a six-day partial closure of the highway, which facilitated the safe and efficient construction of the pedestrian structure.

The partial closure, which occurred nightly from 11 pm to 6 am, commenced on Thursday last week and concluded on Tuesday, 17 December 2024. KeNHA expressed gratitude to motorists and local residents for their cooperation during this period.
"The Authority thanks you for your cooperation and patience. At KeNHA, your safety is our utmost priority," read the statement.
The new footbridge is designed to enhance pedestrian safety in the Juja Highpoint area, a well-known accident hotspot due to heavy traffic and frequent jaywalking.
Before its installation, pedestrians often risked crossing the busy dual carriageway, putting their lives in danger and causing traffic disruptions.
During the construction period, Nairobi-bound vehicles were diverted via a detour behind Lexo Petrol Station, while those travelling towards Thika were rerouted behind Centurion Hotel before rejoining the highway.
While the diversions caused temporary delays, they were a necessary measure to ensure the safety of both motorists and construction crews.
KeNHA noted the importance of adhering to traffic management plans during such projects to minimise disruptions and prevent accidents.
"Motorists are requested to exercise caution around the work areas, follow the proposed traffic management plan, and cooperate with police and traffic marshals on-site," the Authority stated in its initial announcement of the closure.
The completion of the Juja Highpoint footbridge forms part of KeNHA’s broader efforts to improve road safety across the country, particularly along high-traffic corridors such as Thika Road.
