Six more bodies exhumed in Binzaro village cult probe, total rises to 19

The pathologist said the team hopes to complete exhumations by the end of the week, after which post-mortems will be conducted to establish the causes of death.
Exhumations in Binzaro village, Kilifi County, on Tuesday unearthed six more bodies from four graves, among them the remains of an infant and an adult buried together.
Chief Government Pathologist Dr Johansen Oduor confirmed the recoveries.

The discovery has pushed the total number of bodies exhumed in the ongoing exercise to 19.
“We were able to exhume four graves, and the total bodies was six. In the two graves, there were two bodies each. In one grave, we found the body of an infant and an adult together,” Dr Oduor told journalists at the scene.
He noted that the condition of the bodies varied significantly, with some completely skeletonised while others retained traces of flesh.
“There are variations in the state of postmortem changes in these bodies, totally skeletonised, but like today, we found some skeletons with a bit of flesh, which indicates they were not buried at the same time. There is some proportion in how they were being buried,” he said.
The pathologist said the team hopes to complete exhumations by the end of the week, after which post-mortems will be conducted to establish the causes of death.
“If all goes well, we can finish the exhumation activity this week and then proceed with autopsies,” he said.
The Binzaro exhumations are part of investigations into a disturbing series of deaths linked to alleged cultic practices in Kilifi.
Dozens of shallow graves have been mapped in the area as investigators search for missing persons believed to have been lured into starvation or killed under religious indoctrination.
