Project supervisor Mohamed Ali confirmed the news, shedding light on the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
Mohamed revealed that the collapse happened during the afternoon hours as they conducted a routine check on the wall after heavy rains had pounded the region.
"We had suspended the work for the last three days because it was raining. We went to do a check-up, and that is when the supervisor and his foreman went downwards to check on the status of the construction wall. Unfortunately, we lost one, and the other was injured and rushed to the Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital," Mohamed said.
The supervisor highlighted the challenges faced during construction, particularly concerning the nearby sewer lines.
“When the rain started, we had to halt construction for three days. We were concerned because the soil was sandy, and we were building a sea wall. Suddenly, while supervisors were on site and workers were doing rounds, a landslide occurred,” he said.
He noted the incident highlighted a problem with the sewage system, as many are not properly constructed.
