Jimmy Charles Mureithi was charged with spreading false information, alleging that one Loise Makena committed the crime.

A man accused of posting on Facebook that one Loise Makena embezzled Sh200 million from Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung’aro has been charged with spreading false information.

Jimmy Charles Mureithi, who was apprehended on Sunday, appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate David Odhiambo at the Mombasa Law Courts on Tuesday. He faced charges in line with Section 23 of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrime Act of 2018.

The court heard that at an undisclosed time, date, and location, Mureithi intentionally shared false information through the Facebook account 'Mureithi Wa Lucy,' as alleged by the complainant, harming her reputation.

A court document indicates that Makena, Francis Ngala, and others, whose identities will be disclosed later, are the witnesses in the case.

Magistrate Odhiambo ordered that the suspect be held in custody for two days, after which he will be released on a bond of Sh500,000 with a surety of the same value.

Mureithi must also undergo a compulsory psychiatric evaluation ahead of the mention of the case on April 11, 2024.

He was apprehended on Sunday, April 7.
