Mombasa County imposes peak hour ban on heavy trucks to ease traffic

In a bid to alleviate traffic congestion, Mombasa County has announced restrictions on the movement of heavy goods vehicles on Northern Mainland roads during peak hours.
Effective from August 9, 2024, to December 6, 2024, the directive targets vehicles weighing over 10 tons.

The restriction, as gazetted by the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Transport, Infrastructure, and Public Works, David Manyala, will apply to specific roads during peak periods from 6:00 am to 9:30 am and 3:30 pm to 8:00 pm.
The affected roads include Nyali Bridge, Fidel Odinga Road, Links Road, New Malindi Road, and Old Malindi Road.
This measure aims to reduce traffic jams and improve the overall flow of vehicles in these key areas.
"The decision to impose these restrictions comes after extensive consultations and an assessment of traffic patterns. Our goal is to ensure smoother movement during peak hours and to enhance safety for all road users," he said.
The county government has also indicated that it will monitor the effectiveness of the restrictions and make adjustments if necessary.
The implementation will involve increased enforcement and awareness campaigns to ensure compliance.
This restriction is part of a broader effort by Mombasa County to address traffic challenges and improve urban mobility.
The county administration urges all drivers to cooperate and adjust their schedules accordingly to facilitate smoother traffic flow.
