Authorities arrest two suspects, seize bhang worth Sh9 million in Kwale

Authorities in Kwale County have arrested two suspects and seized bhang valued at Sh9 million in an ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking along the coast.

The operation took place in Diani, with a combined effort from detectives of the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) Mombasa and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Diani.

Following a tip-off from the public, officers apprehended one man, a suspected drug trafficker, in the Chief’s area of Diani.

His arrest led to the discovery of 10 sacks of bhang weighing 314 kilogrammes, with an estimated street value of Sh9.4 million.

Investigators then arrested a 30-year-old woman, in a nearby house. Both suspects are in custody, and the seized narcotics have been secured as evidence.

“This operation is part of the wider coastal crackdown on drug trafficking, which has seen a significant increase in arrests and narcotics seizures over recent weeks,” a security source stated.

Authorities are targeting drug syndicates operating in the region, and the public is being urged to continue providing valuable information to help with the crackdown

In a separate operation, officers in Mombasa recovered 16 sacks of suspected cannabis worth Sh25 million.

The drugs were seized during a raid on a residence in Kiembeni, following credible intelligence.

Police arrested the wife of the suspected trafficker, who is now assisting with investigations.

Mombasa County Commissioner Mahmoud Noor reiterated the government’s commitment to fighting drug trafficking, stating,

“The war against drugs will continue. The safety and well-being of our people are paramount. We can allow criminals to destroy our youth. The multi-agency team will continue with the crackdown, and those involved in this illegal business will arrest them all,” he said.

Both investigations are ongoing as police work to dismantle drug networks along the coast.
