Governor Abdulswamad Sherrif Nassir highlighted the road’s transformative potential for both the local and national economy.
“This is not just a road, it is a lifeline for trade and business. With this infrastructure, we are paving the way for economic transformation, creating opportunities for our youth, and enhancing livelihoods. We are deeply grateful to our international partners for making this possible,” Nassir said.
Nassir also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustainable development, adding, “We will continue to support projects that uplift communities and drive inclusive growth.”
The road is designed to address persistent congestion at the port, streamlining the logistics chain for goods entering and leaving the country.
A representative from TradeMark Africa said, “Efficient infrastructure is the backbone of regional trade. This road is a strategic investment that will create jobs, boost economic growth, and enhance community welfare across East Africa.”
Representatives from Denmark and the United Kingdom, long-standing partners of TradeMark Africa, praised the project’s completion.
“The completion of this road is a testament to the power of partnerships. It improves connectivity, reduces inefficiencies, and directly benefits the people of Mombasa and the wider region. Denmark remains committed to supporting infrastructure that drives economic growth,” ” said a Danish official
The road aligns with Mombasa County’s infrastructure agenda, positioning the region as a competitive economic hub.
County officials underscored its potential to attract more investment and foster sustainable development.
Residents and traders in Mombasa expressed optimism about the road’s impact.
“This will reduce the delays we’ve been experiencing at the port. Lower transportation costs mean better prices for consumers and higher profits for us,” said Amina Abdalla
The link road is part of broader efforts to modernize trade routes and logistics infrastructure across Kenya. By addressing key bottlenecks, the project bolsters Mombasa’s status as a vital gateway for trade in East Africa.
