Officer who shot himself dead at DCI Headquarters identified

The police officer who tragically took his own life at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Headquarters in Nairobi has been identified as 59-year-old Corporal Linus Muia Mutunga.

The police officer who tragically took his own life at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Headquarters in Nairobi has been identified as Corporal Linus Muia Mutunga. At 59 years old, he was close to his retirement which was to come at the end of the year and thus he worked as a driver in the DCI operations department.

On Wednesday morning, Mutunga reported to work and, shortly thereafter, locked himself in his car and took his own life with a gunshot to the head. The motive behind this suicide remains unknown.

His colleagues were alerted by the sound of the gunshot, and upon investigation, they discovered his lifeless body in the parking lot, with a fatal gunshot wound to the head. DCI boss Mohamed Amin and chief government pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor visited the scene.
