Gachagua to officially launch DCP party on June 3 at Kasarani stadium, 5,000 people expected at the event
This comes just weeks after Gachagua, during a widely publicised event on May 15, publicly unveiled the name of the party and introduced a line-up of interim officials, a move that many had initially interpreted as the actual party launch.
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has picked Kasarani Stadium Gymnasium as the venue for the official launch of his new political outfit, the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), setting the stage for what is expected to be a major political event on June 3, 2025.
In a letter sent to the facility’s management by the party’s interim Secretary General, Hezron Obaga, the DCP formally booked the gymnasium and received an invoice for the required payment.

The party said it expects to host at least 5,000 people during the launch, including supporters, guests, party members and the press.
“The event is expected to host approximately 5,000 attendees, including party members, supporters, guests, and members of the press. We plan to use the facility for speeches, performances, and interactive sessions aimed at unveiling our vision, manifesto, and leadership to the Kenyan public,” read the letter in part.

Gachagua confirmed that the party’s name had already been submitted to the Registrar of Political Parties for ratification.
The newly announced team includes former political heavyweights from both UDA and Jubilee, signalling a push by Gachagua to build a formidable structure for his new platform.
Former UDA secretary general Cleophas Malala was named deputy party leader, while former Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi will serve as the interim National Organising Secretary. The caucus of eminent persons will be chaired by the former Starehe MP.
Catherine Waruguru, formerly the Laikipia Woman Representative, was picked as national women leader, while David Mingati from Kajiado was named national chairperson.
The appointments also reflect a wide regional spread, with representatives drawn from counties across the country.
Other interim officials include Peter Mwathi (Deputy Chairperson, Strategy – Kiambu), Margaret Sarah Owino (Deputy Chairperson, Operations – Kisumu), Hezron Obaga (Secretary General – Kisii), Martin Ole Kamwaro (Deputy Secretary General – Narok), Hannah Mutua (National Treasurer – Machakos), Evangeline Wanjiru Njoka (Deputy Treasurer, Strategy – Embu), and Thomas Mwita (Deputy National Treasurer – Migori).
The election coordination role will be led by Andrew Kiplimo (Director of Elections – Uasin Gishu), while David Njenga will head the Diaspora Caucus. Albanus Kinyua will chair the religious caucus, and Alex Khamasi has been named National Coordinator for Counties.
Other appointments include Brenda Wanjiru as Executive Director (Busia), Christopher Mwadime as Secretary for Devolution (Taita Taveta), Mercy Gakuya as Secretary for Education (Nairobi), Elvan Nyambura as Secretary for International Affairs (Murang’a), Hussein Athmani as Secretary for Tourism (Kilifi), and John Maraga to represent Persons with Disabilities (Nakuru).
The party’s youth agenda will be led by Cera Wanjiku Thiga, who has been named National Youth Leader.
