According to his elder sister, Maryan Hish, the family was unaware of the events until 6pm, when Mr. Mohamed's colleague was released. Ms. Hish stated that her brother and his colleague had been reluctant to leave the shop until individuals in civilian attire summoned uniformed police officers.

However, as he was being escorted out of the station, he was abruptly forced into an unmarked vehicle, raising suspicions of an abduction by officers from the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit. When contacted, Abdirashid's father, Hish Mohamed, struggled to speak, overcome by emotion. "My son was forced to sign some papers before he was released," he shared, recounting the traumatic events. The family is now urgently appealing to the authorities to locate and safely return their missing son, emphasising his local ties and legitimate business activities in Garissa. Ms. Hish directly addressed the Kenyan government, urging them to honor their commitment to justice and the protection of every citizen.
