Eastleigh Section Three will be getting water on Fridays from 10 am to Saturdays at 8 am while Eastleigh 1st, 2nd and 3rd Avenue will have their water flowing from Saturdays from 2 pm to Mondays at 8 am.

Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company has revised its water distribution programme across the city.

In its revised programme as seen by The Eastleigh Voice, Eastleigh Section Three will be getting water on Fridays from 10 am to Saturdays at 8 am while Eastleigh 1st, 2nd and 3rd Avenue will have their water flowing from Saturdays from 2 pm to Mondays at 8 am.

Other areas including Muratina Road, Pumwani, Kiambiu, Starehe, Kariokor, Race Course, Pumwani, and Ushirika will also have uninterrupted water supply on Saturdays from 2 pm to Monday 8 am.

California and Majengo will have their water supply on Mondays from 8 am to Thursdays at 3 pm.

The water crisis since 2017 in the capital has been felt by residents not only living in the city's informal settlements but also in middle-class estates.

Water demand in Nairobi has grown to more than 810, 000 cubic meters daily against an installed production of 525, 600 cubic meters daily, presenting a demand gap of 284, 400 cubic meters resulting in water rationing.

This has also led to the residents falling into the hands of water vendors who take advantage and hike the cost of water with one jerrycan almost costing between Sh20 -Sh30.

Nairobi water sources

Nairobi County has four sources of water; Kikuyu Springs, Ruiru, Sasumua and Thika dams which supply water to the city.

The water is treated in Ngethu, Sasumua, Kabete and Kikuyu Water Treatment Works.

The four have an installed maximum daily production capacity of 440 million, 61 million, 20 million and 4 million litres respectively.

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja during his latest State of the County address earlier this month, said his administration is working to reduce the water demand and supply gap.

"To reduce the gap of water demand and supply in the city, the National and County governments through the Athi Water Works Development Agency (AWWDA) are developing the Northern Collector Tunnel Phase 1 Water Project which was supposed to be commissioned last month (March) and is expected to deliver an additional 140 million litres of water to the city per day," Sakaja said.

"Furthermore, the Karimenu Dam Water Project being developed by AWWDA is in the final stages of completion and is supposed to deliver 23 million litres of water per day to the city,|" he added.

Once the projects are complete, the Governor stated that city residents will receive water at least thrice a week.

Sakaja also revealed that Nairobi county and the national government have also secured $100 million in funding for the development of Phase II of the Northern Collector Tunnel in Murang'a. The tunnel will provide an additional 120 million litres of water per day.
