The robot waiters can greet customers using a screen simulating a face. They have trays built into their bodies, on which staff members load the food. Customers then take their meals directly from the trays.
This innovative approach to dining is a new development in Eastleigh, generating considerable interest among locals and visitors.
The restaurant's owner, Ahmed Yusuf Kulane, spoke to the Eastleigh Voice about the effort that went into opening the restaurant. He mentioned that it took over a year to prepare the space, which features unique decorations, including two waterfalls, an aquarium, and state-of-the-art furniture.
Ahmed emphasised that AK’s would offer a variety of cuisines, not limited to Somali dishes. The restaurant aims to provide high-quality service and a wide range of international dishes.
"Preparing all these decorations was not easy. It took almost a year. We shall be serving all kinds of cuisine," he stated.
He also mentioned that the restaurant has employed over 20 individuals from Kamukunji and other parts of Nairobi, who will be working as waiters, cooks, and cleaners.
The restaurant's opening was well-received by the attendees. Hussein Ali, who attended the event, praised the taste of the complimentary lunch and the restaurant's furnishings.
"The meat was tender and tasty, the rice was good, and I think this is one of the best restaurants around here," he said. Hussein also appreciated the restaurant's decoration and seating.
Another attendee, Arafat Abdirahman, echoed Hussein's sentiments, highlighting the ambience and the quality of the food served. "The lunch was delicious, and everything here looks classy," he said.
Eastleigh has become a magnet for both Kenyan and foreign investors, drawn to the area's vibrant business scene. The Business Bay Square Mall, where AK’s is located, is the largest in East and Central Africa. The mall currently hosts over 40 eateries.
The introduction of a robot restaurant in Eastleigh marks a new chapter in the area's culinary and technological landscape. The restaurant aims to attract a diverse clientele, offering a blend of modern technology and diverse culinary options.
