The launch drew hundreds of attendees, including local business people, residents, and leaders such as Kamukunji Member of Parliament Yusuf Hassan and area Assistant County Commissioner Mohamed Adow.

Eastleigh witnessed another milestone in its urban development as Bilal Towers, a 17-floor building, officially opened on Thursday.

Located on Fifth Street along Yusuf Haji Avenue and directly opposite Bangkok Shopping Mall, the multi-purpose structure comprises shops, offices, and residential units.

In his address, MP Yusuf Hassan highlighted Eastleigh's importance as a commercial hub not just for Kenya, but for the entire East and Central African region. He emphasised the neighbourhood's economic contribution, noting that over 150,000 Kenyans earn their livelihoods through employment and business activities in the area.

"Eastleigh is a vibrant, diverse, and cosmopolitan area that truly belongs to all who live and work here in peace and harmony. The rise of Eastleigh as a business hub is a remarkable success story for Kenya," he stated.

Shamsudin Mohamed, the proprietor of Bilal Towers, expressed his satisfaction with the completion of the project.

Speaking to Eastleigh Voice, he said that the construction took two years and that the building is expected to provide significant economic opportunities for the community.

"This 17-floor building consists of shops, apartments, and offices. Hundreds of people from our neighbourhood will be getting employment. I am really happy to see Bilal up and running," he said.

Eastleigh's commercial sector continues to thrive, with over 80 malls already in operation around the same area where Bilal Towers is located.

The timing of the opening coincides with the busy Christmas shopping season, positioning the new building as a valuable addition to the bustling business environment.

However, Eastleigh's rapid growth has brought challenges. While new buildings are transforming the skyline, infrastructure has struggled to keep pace. Residents face issues such as inadequate waste management and water supply shortages. Most buildings rely on boreholes to meet their water needs due to the limited supply from Nairobi City County.

Despite these challenges, Eastleigh remains a beacon of economic vibrancy.
