Machogu said the National Treasury has already released Sh31.34 billion to support learners enrolled in the sub-sector.

The Government is set to spend Sh12.8 billion to facilitate the construction of classrooms in junior schools in conjunction with Members of Parliament, Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has said.

Through these funds, the Ministry of Education expects 15,015 classrooms to be ready for use in junior schools for Grade 9 next year.

Machogu said the National Treasury has already released Sh31.34 billion to support learners enrolled in the sub-sector.

"These funds have effectively cleared the way for a smooth opening of schools for the First Term of the 2024 Calendar Year countrywide today," Machogu said on Monday during the release of the 2023 KCSE exams at the Moi Girls High School in Eldoret.

The CS urged teachers to continue using the existing already approved textbooks since they have relevant content, tasks and assessments for learners as guided by the curriculum designs.

"I have directed the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) to ensure the curriculum designs are uploaded on the KICD website," Machogu said.

Education PS Belio Kipsang at the same time said the ministry has disbursed term one capitation to schools assuring that the cash will land in their respective accounts between January 8 and January 10, 2024.
