CAF announces postponement of CHAN to August 2025
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially announced the postponement of the 2024 TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) to August 2025. This decision comes after consultations with CAF's technical and infrastructure experts, who indicated that additional time is needed to ensure that the stadiums, training facilities, and other key infrastructure in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda meet the necessary standards for a successful tournament.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially confirmed the postponement of the 2024 TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN), initially scheduled to take place in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, in February to August 2025.
According to a statement by CAF, this decision was made to ensure that the infrastructure and facilities in the three host countries meet the required standards for hosting a successful tournament.

CAF acknowledged the significant progress made in the construction and upgrading of stadiums, training fields, hotels, hospitals, and other essential facilities across Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. However, after consultations with CAF’s technical and infrastructure experts, it was determined that more time is needed to complete the necessary preparations.
Dr. Patrice Motsepe, the President of CAF, expressed his gratitude to the leaders of the three host nations. He commended Presidents William Ruto of Kenya, Samia Suluhu Hassan of Tanzania, and Yoweri Museveni of Uganda for their leadership and commitment to the progress of the infrastructure projects.
"I am impressed with the ongoing construction and renovations of the football infrastructure and facilities in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda," said Dr. Motsepe. "I am confident that these facilities will meet CAF's standards, ensuring a very successful CHAN in August 2025."
As part of the preparations for the tournament, CAF will hold the official draw for the CHAN 2024 on Wednesday, 15 January 2025, in Nairobi, at 20:00 Nairobi Time. The exact start date of the tournament in August 2025 will be announced in due course.
