East African rivalry renewed as Uganda faces Tanzania at AFCON 2025

Uganda and Tanzania will face off in a highly anticipated East African derby at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. The two sides were drawn into Group C alongside three-time champions Nigeria and Tunisia during the official draw in Rabat, Morocco. This marks Uganda's return to the tournament after six years, while Tanzania makes history with consecutive appearances.
The 35th Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) will kick off on Sunday, 21 December 2025, and conclude with the final on Sunday, 18 January 2026.
An East African derby is on the horizon after Uganda and Tanzania were drawn together in Group C during the draw held at the Mohammed V National Theatre in Rabat, Morocco.

Uganda returns to the tournament after missing out for six years, while Tanzania will make history with their first consecutive appearances at AFCON. Joining them in Group C are three-time champions Nigeria and Tunisia, who are making their 17th straight appearance at the competition.
Out of the 24 teams participating, 12 have previously won the title, sharing a total of 28 championships.
