Kenya Morans blank Ghana, edge Uganda to finish top of Pool A at Africa 7s

Kenya B Morans wrapped up an unbeaten Day One at the Rugby Africa Sevens in Mauritius with dominant wins over Ghana and Uganda, topping Pool A after three straight victories without conceding in two of their matches.

Kenya B Morans continued their ruthless run at the Rugby Africa Sevens in Mauritius, recording back-to-back victories over Ghana (33-0) and arch-rivals Uganda (12-5) to finish Day One unbeaten and top of Pool A.

Coming off a resounding 38-0 win against Côte d'Ivoire earlier in the day, the Morans showed no signs of slowing down in their second match. Against Ghana, they delivered yet another masterclass in both attack and defense.

George Ooro struck early, finishing off a sweeping move that Siketi converted. No sooner had the celebrations settled than William Mwanji dotted down at the corner post with Siketi adding the extras for a quick-fire 14-0 lead.

Before the break, Floyd Wabwire,a standout performer on the day slipped past defenders to score the third try, with Siketi again flawless from the tee. The Morans led 21-0 at halftime.

The second half saw more structured Kenyan play, with two additional tries, one of which was converted by Philip Okeyo, sealing a dominant 33-0 win. It was their second clean sheet of the tournament, underlining the squad’s defensive solidity.

But the toughest test awaited in the final match of the day, a high-stakes East African derby against Uganda. It turned out to be a bruising and closely fought contest.

After a scoreless first half, Dennis Abukuse sliced through Uganda’s line to touch down under the posts. He converted his own try to break the deadlock.

Shortly after, George Ooro capitalized on a loose Ugandan defense to score the second try. Though the conversion was missed, the Morans had a healthy 12-0 cushion. Uganda replied with a late unconverted try to cut the deficit to 12-5, but Kenya held firm to close the game and the day—undefeated.

With three wins from three, the Morans top Pool A heading into Day Two.

Kenya will now shift focus to the knockout stages, where sterner tests await. But with zero points conceded in two of three matches, and all units firing, the Morans have sent a strong message, they're here to compete and contend.
