Sh28 billion grant to boost over 100,000 small businesses across Kenya

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki said the initiative is part of the government’s broader strategy to empower Kenyans at the lower end of the economic spectrum and fulfil campaign promises to uplift small-scale enterprises.
Over 100,000 businesses across Kenya will benefit from Sh28 billion in government grants, aimed at supporting micro and small enterprises (MSEs) and promoting grassroots economic development.
The funds will be distributed to 101,500 businesses across 70 constituencies, with each constituency receiving Sh50,000 for 70 businesses.

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki said the initiative is part of the government’s broader strategy to empower Kenyans at the lower end of the economic spectrum and fulfil campaign promises to uplift small-scale enterprises.
“This programme is part of our deliberate efforts to uplift Kenyans at the lower rungs of the economic ladder. It is a fulfilment of our campaign pledge to support small enterprises as a foundation for national prosperity,” Kindiki said.
The grant targets a wide range of informal sector players such as salon operators, barbers, and carpenters, who play a crucial role in providing employment and essential services within local communities.
The announcement was made during a youth empowerment event in Naivasha, presided over by Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika and attended by National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah. The event served as a platform to rally support for youth-centred economic initiatives.
During the forum, leaders also collectively donated Sh11 million to support 5,000 youth groups in Naivasha Sub-County. President William Ruto contributed Sh5 million, DP Kindiki gave Sh3 million, Governor Kihika donated Sh2 million, and Ichung’wah contributed Sh1 million.
Governor Kihika also highlighted the county’s infrastructural progress, stating that three new markets are under construction in Naivasha Sub-County as part of a broader plan to improve trading conditions.
“In total, we have budgeted for 17 new markets, with another six in the planning phase. These facilities will provide safe, clean, and dignified spaces for our traders, complete with modern amenities including ablution blocks, nursing stations, and Wi-Fi,” Kihika said.
The leaders reiterated their commitment to fostering an inclusive economy that supports small businesses and creates sustainable employment for the youth, especially through deliberate investments in infrastructure and financial empowerment at the grassroots.
