Isiolo MCAs dismiss gazette notice naming new speaker

They claimed that no formal sitting of the Assembly took place to elect a new Speaker and insisted that Mohamed Roba remains the duly elected Speaker of the County Assembly of Isiolo.

A section of Isiolo Members of County Assembly (MCAs) has dismissed a Gazette notice announcing Abdullahi Jaldesa as the new Speaker of the Isiolo County Assembly, claiming the move is unlawful and a misuse of government processes.

Speaking to the press in Nairobi, 16 MCAs from Isiolo voiced their frustration over the publication of Gazette Notice No. 8667 dated June 26, 2025, which they say was a blatant abuse of legal procedure.

They claimed that no formal sitting of the Assembly took place to elect a new Speaker and insisted that Mohamed Roba remains the duly elected Speaker of the County Assembly of Isiolo.

According to the MCAs, the announcement is misleading and goes against established legal and procedural requirements.

“The publication of a new Speaker in the government gazette is an outright abuse of that office,” one MCA said. “Proper legal procedures were not followed in electing a new Speaker, and therefore the notice has no basis in law.”

The ward representatives stated that no formal sitting of the Assembly was held to conduct a lawful election and accused unnamed individuals of using the gazettement to forcibly remove Speaker Mohamed Roba through illegitimate means.

The Gazette notice, signed by Assembly Clerk Salad B. Guracha, states that Abdullahi Jaldesa was duly elected as Speaker and Chairperson of the County Assembly Service Board on June 26.

However, the MCAs argue that the Clerk acted unilaterally and allege that his actions are part of a wider scheme to interfere with the Assembly’s leadership.

The MCAs further alleged that the Clerk of the Assembly, Saleh Boru, played a key role in the issuance of the controversial notice.

They accused him of having hidden motives and colluding with certain forces to undermine the Assembly’s leadership.
