Frustration as candidates fail to access KCSE results, KNEC calls for calm
The Education CS had recommended that candidates facing difficulties access the results through the toll-free numbers 0800724900 or 0800721410. Yet, attempts to reach the KNEC helpline were unsuccessful, with the lines remaining busy throughout the day.
Schools, parents and Kenyan at large have expressed concern over technical difficulties preventing access to the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam results, released by Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba on Thursday.
Despite the announcement, candidates were unable to retrieve their results as the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) website went down shortly after the release.

Ogamba assured the public that individual candidate results could be accessed online via https://results.knec.ac.ke.
However, attempts to access the site were met with error messages such as “This page isn’t working” and “This site can’t be reached.”
Several schools, including Eastleigh High School, St. John Secondary School in Majengo, and California Group of Schools in Eastleigh, have reported issues preventing them from accessing the recently released 2024 KCSE results.
Parents and Kenyans have also voiced frustration over the portal’s malfunction.
“In Kenya, nothing is functional. Even the system itself is so delusional and not working. The KNEC portal isn’t even responding, let alone blinking,” Geophrey Momanyi lamented.
“Have you guys received anything from KNEC? The portal is not working. We’ve been trying, and it’s not available,” Cathy Mutuku inquired.
“Give us another way to access the results because the KNEC portal has a problem, or please work on it,” Brian Omondi urged KNEC.
The Education CS had recommended that candidates facing difficulties access the results through the toll-free numbers 0800724900 or 0800721410. Yet, attempts to reach the KNEC helpline were unsuccessful, with the lines remaining busy throughout the day.
KNEC has however insisted the website is fully functional and that candidates are receiving their results.
"The minor delays in receiving feedback are due to the high number of requests being sent to the portal, of up to 300,000 hits per second. We urge Kenyans to be patient and assure them that everyone will be able to access their results," KNEC said.
The delay is a departure from previous years, when results were typically accessible via SMS by sending index numbers to a designated short code.
A similar disruption occurred in 2023, when Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) candidates were unable to retrieve their results via SMS after the service collapsed, leaving candidates with an error message that their results were “not available.”
KNEC later issued an apology for the technical difficulties experienced last year, but there has been no immediate response regarding the current issue.
