Businessman charged after allegedly assaulting sister in Eastleigh

An Eastleigh businessman who allegedly seriously injured his young sister for travelling to Uganda without his family's consent is facing charges of causing her grievous harm.
Abdiaziz Abdullahi Hassan is accused of causing grievous harm to Ridhwan Abdilahi Hassan contrary to section 234 of the Penal Code in Jam Street, Eastleigh in Nairobi on January 2, 2025.

The incident happened at the siblings' sister where the victim lived.
Abdiaziz, who is a director of a company, was in Garissa on December 26 last year when he was informed that Ridhwan had left the previous day and was yet to return. He called her and established that she was in Uganda where she claimed to be visiting her friend.
He made a report of missing at the Garissa police station where he told cops that Ridhwan was missing.

He engaged his relative working at a Telecom Services company and a specialised unit of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) that established that Ridhwan and the said friend were near the Uganda – Rwanda border.
Abdiaziz, who had travelled to Busia town at the Kenya – Uganda border ordered his sister to return to Kenya and she arrived at the town on December 30.
Investigators at DCI's Pangani offices established that the suspect ordered the officers at the Busia police station to place the complaint in cells and she was detained before he was transferred to Pangani police station where she was placed in cells on December 31, 2024.
She was released on January 2, 2025, and taken home after intervention by family members and she went to her sister's house at around 6 pm.
The accused person allegedly followed her to the house where he allegedly tortured her.
The victim was later rushed to a hospital in the area by her young brother where she was treated and discharged.
Ridhwan was later examined at the Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital in Embakasi on January 3, where medics certified her injuries as serious and a P3 form was filled.
She later recorded a statement with DCI and the suspect was arrested. He denied the charges before Principal Magistrate Carolyne Mugo of Makadara Law Courts.
He was released on a cash bail of Sh30,000 and an alternative bond of Sh80,000.
The case will be mentioned on April 30 before the hearing starts on July 16, 2025.
