Court releases four suspects in Juja MP "abduction" case

The suspects have been barred from communicating with any of the witnesses in the case either by themselves or their proxies.

A Nairobi court has released four suspects in the alleged staged abduction of Juja Constituency MP George Koimburi, saying there were no sufficient grounds to detain them.

The four suspects, Grace Nduta Wairimu (Kanyenya-ini ward MCA), Peter Kiratu Mbari, David Macharia Gatana and Cyrus Muhia were each released on Sh300,000 cash bail with an alternative bond of Sh1 million.

Further, the suspects have been barred from communicating with any of the witnesses in the case either by themselves or their proxies.

Magistrate Carolyne Mugo further ordered them to report to the investigations officer weekly or whenever summoned by the DCI until the court otherwise directs.

The court directed the prosecution to move the court at any moment for the cancellation of the bond terms issued to the suspects in the event they breach any of the conditions given by the court.

The case will be mentioned on June 5, 2025.

The four suspects were arrested in connection with the alleged staged abduction of Juja MP George Koimburi.

They were arraigned under a miscellaneous application where the DCI requested 15 more days to detain them pending investigations and subsequent directions from the DPP.

The suspects are said to have taken part in the alleged abduction in order to murder, contrary to section 258 of the Penal Code.

They are also being investigated for the offence of creating a disturbance in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace.

In declining the application for further detention, the magistrate said that the investigating officer does not necessarily need the suspects in custody to conduct any of his investigations.

Koimburi, who is currently at Karen Hospital, is alleged to have staged his own abduction on May 25, 2025.
