Three suspects in Kasipul MP Ong'ondo Were murder case released due to lack of evidence

The move comes after the prosecution told the court that the evidence gathered does not incriminate the three.

A Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) court has discharged three accused persons in the murder of Kasipul MP Ong'ondo Were.

This is after the prosecution told the court that the evidence gathered does not incriminate the three.

The three appeared before Principal Magistrate Irene Gichobi.

Those freed are Juma Ali Haikal, Douglas Muchiri Wambugu and David Mihigo Kagame.

This brings to five, the number of people who have so far been discharged in the case.

On Wednesday, five suspects were detained after the DPP recommended murder charges against them.

They are awaiting a mental assessment before pleading to the charges.

On June 3, 2025, the Makadara Magistrate's Court discharged two other suspects, Dennis Sewe Manyasi (Were's driver) and Walter Owino Awino, who were also found not to be linked to the murder. Both are now expected to serve as state witnesses in the ongoing case.

Additionally, businessman Phillip Aroko has been released on bail.
