Justus Nyarandi appointed Kenya Maritime Authority director general

Justus Nyarandi’s appointment is expected to inject new energy into these efforts as Kenya positions itself as a maritime hub in East and Central Africa.
The Kenya Maritime Authority (KMA) has received CPA Justus Nyarandi as its new director general, taking over from Isaiah Nakoru, who had been serving in an acting capacity.
Nyarandi officially assumed office following a meeting held in Mombasa with officials from the State Department for Shipping and Maritime Affairs and the KMA board.

His appointment was confirmed by KMA Board Chairperson Ahmed Kolosh, who cited Nyarandi’s vast experience in maritime and international shipping as a major asset for the authority.
During a familiarisation tour of KMA offices, Principal Secretary for Shipping and Maritime Affairs, Aden Millah, said the government was fully behind the new leadership and would continue to support the authority in fulfilling its mandate.
“The maritime sector is not only an economic enabler but a critical link in our regional and international trade. Kenya’s position along the Indian Ocean gives it a unique advantage as a trade gateway, and this sector must be guided by capable leadership,” Millah said.
The PS added that Nyarandi’s background in maritime affairs, diplomacy and public service would be instrumental in advancing Kenya’s port infrastructure and regional maritime cooperation.
Millah said the appointment comes at a time when the sector is expected to play a greater role in achieving national economic objectives, including Vision 2030 and the Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
“I urge stakeholders to work closely with the new Director General in steering the sector towards growth,” he said.
The Kenya Maritime Authority is mandated to regulate, coordinate and oversee maritime affairs in the country, with a focus on safety, security, environmental protection and maritime training.
Nyarandi’s appointment is expected to inject new energy into these efforts as Kenya positions itself as a maritime hub in East and Central Africa.
