Posta Kenya increases Mpost charges for individuals, corporates

By |

The new changes will result in a 2,200 per cent price increase for corporate box holders and a 400 per cent increase for individual box holders.

Kenyans using Posta services will now have to pay more after the Postal Corporation of Kenya (PCK) revised upwards MPost charges for virtual address numbers.

The new changes, announced on Thursday by Post Master General John Tonui, will result in a 2,200 per cent price increase for corporate box holders and a 400 per cent increase for individual box holders.

The changes will affect both Corporate and Individual boxes, which will cost Sh9,450 and Sh2,000 respectively, from the previous Sh400 for both.

"PCK wishes to inform our esteemed customers and the general public that the rates for Mpost Virtual Boxes/Addresses for both Corporate and Individual have been adjusted with effect from July 5, 2024," Tonui said in a notice.

Mpost is a service that converts mobile numbers into virtual post office addresses.

It is used for delivery of mail and parcels for individuals and businesses.

In February this year, PCK announced that postal services payments would be through the e-Citizen platform.

The move was necessitated by the directive to have all government services on e-Citizen.

"Postal Corporation of Kenya wishes to inform our esteemed customers and the public that payments of all Postal Services shall now be made through the E-citizen platform," PCK said.

"This follows the Presidential directive to deactivate all existing playbills and onboard all government services on them."

President William Ruto's administration in July 2022 embarked on a journey to revamp the Postal Corporation of Kenya.

The government highlighted that they had started to deliver medicine such as mosquito nets using postal services in collaboration with Kenya Medical Supplies Agency (KEMSA).
