Boda boda association slams hit-and-run accident that killed 2 riders in Nairobi

The National Executive Chairman of Boda Boda Safety Association, Kevin Mubadi, has condemned a hit-and-run accident in Nairobi that resulted in the deaths of two motorcyclists.

The tragic incident took place on Monday morning on Ole Dume Road, Nairobi, where a bus collided with a boda boda rider and his passenger. According to the police, around 30 other passengers on the bus were injured in the crash. Police immediately launched a manhunt for the driver who fled the scene.

Mubadi expressed his condolences to the families who lost their loved ones.

"This devastating incident is a stark reminder of the urgent need for improved road safety measures and greater accountability for all road users," Mubadi said in a statement.

He urged the police to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident and hold those responsible accountable.

"Those responsible must be held accountable to prevent such tragedies from recurring," he added. "We demand that the relevant authorities take immediate action to address this situation," Mubadi said.

The chairman also emphasised the need for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations for public transport operators and urged all drivers to be more cautious on the roads.

"In this period of mourning, we stand united with the families affected and seek justice for those who have lost their lives. We urge the community and all stakeholders to support our call for better road safety and greater respect for the lives of every road user," Mubadi added

The accident occurred around 8 am causing significant traffic congestion on Ole Dume Road and nearby routes.

Police reported that a bus travelling from Kawangware to the city centre failed its brakes and struck the motorcycle ahead of it.

The bus then veered off the road, resulting in fatal injuries to the rider and his female passenger.

Police impounded the bus, which was taken to Kilimani Police Station for further investigation. Autopsies are also scheduled for the two dead bodies of the motorcyclists.
