Find my son dead or alive- Mother's heartbreaking plea after mysterious disappearance

By |

The family claims that although the police launched investigations into Abdiqadir's disappearance, no significant progress has been made two months later.

Fatuma Mukhtar Hassan, a mother of seven, is in anguish following the mysterious disappearance of her firstborn son, Abdiqadir Omar. The incident occurred in Emali town, Makueni County, leaving Fatuma and her family devastated.

Abdiqadir, who initially lived in Hagardera Refugee camp in Dadaab, had travelled to Nairobi in search of better opportunities. He intended to support his struggling siblings, his ailing mother, and his young daughter who still resides in Hagardera.

After weeks of job hunting, Abdiqadir was connected with a woman from abroad who owned shops in Emali. Dissatisfied with how her shop was being managed, she offered Abdiqadir the position, which he readily accepted.

On Wednesday, September 25, 2024, Abdiqadir boarded a bus to Emali to begin his new job. However, later that evening, masked men reportedly arrived at the shop around 7 pm, forcibly taking him away. He has not been seen or heard from since then.

Fatuma recounted the ordeal, explaining how the family learned about his disappearance and immediately travelled to Emali to file a missing person report at the local police station.

The disappearance has plunged the family into despair, particularly Fatuma, who had relied on Abdiqadir as the family's primary provider.

"His disappearance has affected me deeply. He was my hope," said Fatuma.

Fatuma described her deteriorating health, explaining how the stress of not knowing her son's whereabouts has left her sleepless and unable to eat properly.

The uncertainty of whether Abdiqadir is alive or dead has compounded her suffering. Despite travelling to both Nairobi and Emali to seek answers, Fatuma remains helpless.

"I am a helpless old woman with no support. I am traumatised," she added.

The family claims that although the police launched investigations into Abdiqadir's disappearance, no significant progress has been made two months later.

Fatuma has called upon the government to intervene. She specifically appealed to the Director General of the National Intelligence Service Noordin Haji and other government agencies to assist in locating her son.

Abdiqadir, described by his family as hardworking and sociable, had no known enemies. This was his first time in Nairobi, and he had no prior connections to Emali.

Fatuma insists that her son's sole intention was to improve the living conditions of his family.

The family's plight highlights growing concerns about the rising number of mysterious disappearances in Kenya.

Several individuals have vanished under unclear circumstances, especially in recent years. Human rights activists have pointed out that cases of enforced disappearances have increased, raising questions about security and accountability.

President William Ruto, who pledged to address these disappearances before and after taking office, is now facing criticism from affected families and civil society groups over the lack of tangible action.

Fatuma and her family are urging authorities, including the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), to intensify their efforts to uncover Abdiqadir's whereabouts. For now, the family waits, clinging to hope amid uncertainty, desperate for answers and closure.
