Tanzania surpasses Kenya in latest FIFA rankings

By |

Kenya’s Harambee Stars have dropped to 108th in FIFA’s latest rankings, as neighbours Tanzania climbed six spots to 106th. The rankings reflect recent performances, including Kenya’s failure to qualify for AFCON 2025 and Tanzania’s victory over Guinea.

Kenya’s Harambee Stars have fallen in the latest FIFA rankings, released on Thursday, 28 November. The team dropped two spots, moving from position 106 to 108, while Tanzania climbed six places to position 106, overtaking Kenya.

The shift in rankings follows recent performances by both teams. Harambee Stars failed to win their last two matches against Zimbabwe and Namibia. Additionally, the team did not secure qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

In contrast, Tanzania boosted their ranking with a key 1-0 win over Guinea, a result that earned them a spot in the AFCON tournament.

Morocco remains the top-ranked African team despite dropping to 14th globally, followed by Senegal, which has risen to 17th. Egypt (33rd), Algeria (37th), and Nigeria (44th) round out the top five African teams. Ivory Coast (46th), Cameroon (49th), Mali (51st), Tunisia (52nd), and South Africa (57th) complete the top 10 teams in Africa.

In East Africa, Uganda continues to lead at 88th, with Tanzania (106th) and Kenya (108th) following. Both Uganda and Tanzania have qualified for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), set to take place in Morocco from 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026.

Globally, the top five teams remain unchanged, with Argentina retaining the number one spot. France, Spain, England, and Brazil follow in the rankings. Portugal and the Netherlands have moved up to 6th and 7th, respectively, while Belgium has dropped to 8th. Italy remains in 9th place, and Germany has climbed to complete the top 10.
