The Clean BRT Core Line 3 will be the flagship project of this initiative, enhancing both the reliability and efficiency of public transport in the Nairobi Metropolitan Area.
The system is expected to provide a modern, reliable alternative to the often unpredictable and overcrowded current public transport options.
The new system promises to ensure predictable fares, whether during peak or off-peak hours, addressing one of the major concerns of daily commuters in the region.
The first phase of the Clean BRT system will cover a 12.4-kilometre stretch from Kenyatta National Hospital to Dandora.
Future extensions of the line are already planned, with routes set to extend to Ngong town and Tala by 2035.
Once fully implemented, the system is projected to carry 357,000 passengers daily, providing a vital service for the rapidly growing urban population of Nairobi.
Key features of the BRT system include a cashless fare collection system, real-time passenger information displays, GPS-based vehicle tracking, and park-and-ride facilities designed to facilitate easy access to the transport system.
This technological advancement will not only make commuting more efficient but will also reduce traffic congestion, as commuters will have access to accurate and timely information.
The Nairobi Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (NaMATA) will oversee the management and operation of the Clean BRT system.
The initiative is a significant leap toward achieving a more sustainable and efficient public transportation system in Nairobi, in line with the city's vision of reducing environmental pollution and promoting greener modes of travel.
The Clean BRT system is expected to revolutionise how Nairobians move across the city, offering a modern, eco-friendly, and dependable transport solution to one of Africa's busiest metropolitan areas.
