Government reveals it spent Sh500 million on constructing Homa Bay's Raila Odinga Stadium

Government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura stated that the modern 12,000-seater stadium was part of the state’s broader plan to promote development in historically underserved regions.
The government has revealed it spent Sh500 million on the construction of the newly commissioned Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay town, the main venue for Kenya’s 62nd Madaraka Day celebrations on Sunday.
In a press briefing on Saturday, Government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura stated that the modern 12,000-seater stadium, named after Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga, was part of the state’s broader plan to promote development in historically underserved regions.

"As we approach the 62nd Madaraka Day celebrations, we are filled with pride and anticipation as Homa Bay County prepares to make history by hosting this important national event for the first time at the newly commissioned Raila Odinga Stadium,” he stated.
"The Raila Odinga Stadium, built at a cost of Sh500 million, is now equipped with modern terraces, natural grass, and floodlights, making it a central venue for sports and community activities,” he added.
Nyanza Regional Commissioner Flora Mworoa confirmed that Homa Bay County is fully prepared to host the celebrations.
"We are fully set to host the country for this year’s Madaraka Day celebrations at Raila Odinga Stadium,” Mworoa said.
“Those who will attend will see for themselves the quality of renovations done.”
Roads within Homa Bay Town have undergone major improvements to enhance traffic flow.
“We have been able to grade and upgrade roads within the town to bitumen standards,” she said.
“We now have a dual carriageway from Mbita diversion all the way to the stadium to ensure people do not experience difficulty as they come to Homa Bay County.”
She also noted that an elaborate traffic management plan has been implemented, with designated parking zones set up in nearby institutions to ease congestion.
