Mwaura acknowledged the positive development, stating that the number of Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps has decreased from its peak of 170 to 95. Presently, 67,255 individuals remain displaced, a notable reduction from the previous count of 545,515. Anticipating further decreases in both camp numbers and displaced persons, especially as camps in schools are being vacated.

The spokesman assured that all roads are currently accessible, except for the Masalani self-anchored suspension bridge. Ongoing efforts to deliver relief supplies to affected counties continue unabated.

Regarding the cholera situation, Mwaura reported effective management in Lamu and Tana River counties, with no new deaths reported in the last five days. Cumulative cholera-related fatalities stand at four. To enhance relief support in Tana River, the World Food Programme helicopter has been relocated from Wajir to Garissa, ready for distribution within the Tana Delta area.

Looking ahead, the weather forecast indicates anticipated rains in the southern regions starting this Saturday. However, most parts of North Eastern and North Western Kenya are likely to experience generally dry conditions. Strong South Easterly winds exceeding 25 knots are expected over parts of Turkana and Marsabit counties.

Mwaura emphasized public safety and awareness, urging citizens to contact the National Disaster Operations Centre on the toll-free line 0800721571 for further assistance or in case of emergency incidents.

This update follows Mwaura's previous cautionary message on December 21, urging Kenyans to remain vigilant about weather and flood alerts, especially during the Christmas season. He highlighted that the Ministry of Roads has successfully restored all roads damaged during the El Nino rains, emphasizing caution for motorists during the festive season.
