Kenya records steady growth in electricity generation — EPRA

EPRA attributes this growth to Kenya’s sustained investment in expanding and diversifying its energy sources to meet rising electricity demand.
Kenya’s electricity generation has grown steadily over the past five financial years, new data from the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) shows.
Total power generation increased from 11,459.83 GWh in 2020/21 to 14,472.00 GWh in 2024/25, reflecting continued expansion in the country’s power production capacity.

The largest jump occurred between the 2020/21 and 2021/22 financial years, when output rose by more than 1,000 GWh. EPRA attributes this growth to Kenya’s sustained investment in expanding and diversifying its energy sources to meet rising electricity demand.
The steady increase in power generation signals progress toward a more reliable and sufficient electricity supply — a key enabler for Kenya’s economic growth. For businesses, industries, and households, this means improved access to consistent and more affordable electricity.
