Leaders respond to Governor Mutahi Kahiga’s remarks on Raila Odinga

Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga dismissed Kahiga’s comments, claiming he was not speaking for himself but acting as a mouthpiece for Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Kenya’s political leadership has expressed strong condemnation following controversial remarks by Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga regarding the late Raila Odinga.

Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga dismissed Kahiga’s comments, claiming he was not speaking for himself but acting as a mouthpiece for Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru described the remarks as “callous and irresponsible”, while Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire termed them “careless and profoundly disrespectful,” especially during national mourning.

Other leaders, including Trade CS Lee Kinyanjui, Kapsaret MP Oscar Sudi, and People's Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua, criticised the statement as insensitive, divisive, and out of touch with the country’s mourning mood.
