Senior Counsels allege rampant corruption in Kenya's Judiciary
The lawyers argued that corruption and incompetence within the judiciary have eroded trust in Kenya's legal system.
Senior Counsels and former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) Presidents have sounded the alarm on what they allege is "rampant corruption" plaguing the country's judiciary.
The group, led by SC Gibson Kamau Kuria, SC Paul Muite, SC Nelson Havi, and SC Ahmednasir Abdullahi, announced a campaign set to begin on January 1, 2025, aimed at identifying and removing corrupt judges and advocates.

"We are presently at a very critical juncture in our country. As Senior Counsels who have all practised law for two to five decades each, it is very clear to us that the Judiciary has never been this corrupt,' noted SC Abdullahi during a press briefing on Friday in Nairobi.
While declining to name specific advocates and judges, citing the right to a fair trial, the Senior Counsels pledged to tackle the issue head-on through their campaign.
They called on members of the public, legal practitioners, and whistleblowers to channel credible evidence to their offices.
Former LSK President Nelson Havi has vowed to 'go after' judges and Judicial Service Commission (JSC) commissioners who fail to perform their duties effectively.

"We are calling on Kenyans to channel any and all evidence of judicial malpractice to our data bank in the LSK. This will greatly help us in expediting the process to redeem our justice system," noted Kuria.
Kuria claimed individuals armed with falsified documents had attempted to claim ownership of his property in Karen.
"A title no longer holds any value in our society. You can be thrown out of your property with the legitimate documents of ownership firmly in your hands," he said.
The lawyers argued that corruption and incompetence within the judiciary have eroded trust in Kenya's legal system.
"We are overburdened in our task of assisting clients to seek remedies against decisions that are blatantly illegal. Some matters simply require common sense. Why would a judge make a ruling synonymous with saying that there are three suns in the sky? This is absurd," said Havi.
