NTSA releases list of licensed vehicle body builders and assessors

According to NTSA, vehicle body builders must fully adhere to Kenya Standard KS 372:2019, which stipulates that bus bodies should be safe, durable, and suitable for use.
The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has announced an updated register of licensed motor vehicle body builders, conformity assessors, and authorised speed limiter suppliers for August 2025.
In a notice issued on Friday, the authority said the update is in line with its role under the NTSA Act No. 33 of 2012 and the Traffic Act (CAP 403) to safeguard road users and ensure compliance with national safety standards.

According to NTSA, vehicle body builders must fully adhere to Kenya Standard KS 372:2019, which stipulates that bus bodies should be safe, durable, and suitable for use. Approved builders are expected to maintain top standards in design, manufacturing, and assembly processes.
“Conformity Assessors are required to issue a certificate of conformity and affix the VIN Plate on the body of the vehicle as proof of conformance to the Standard,” NTSA said in the notice.
A total of 42 companies have been listed as authorised body builders. These include Kenya Coach Industries in Nairobi, Associated Vehicle Assemblers Limited in Mombasa, Kisumu Mpya in Kisumu, and Sahota Body Works Limited in Nakuru. Others retained in the register include Black Sparks Fabricators, Blessed Hand Auto Garage, and Himat Fabricators.
For conformity assessment, NTSA listed two approved firms: Al-Sahel Services Limited and Kenya Association of Bus Manufacturer Services Limited, both based in Nairobi. These assessors are mandated to certify compliance and attach Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) plates as evidence.
On speed limiters, NTSA confirmed that 12 suppliers have been cleared under KS 2295:2023, the standard guiding their licensing. The companies include Ajira Connect, Karibia Technology
Solution Limited, Kensrin Company Limited, Marts Logistics Limited, Oak and Gold Limited, Pinnacle Systems Limited, Power Governors Limited, Saferider Management Systems Limited, Track and Trace Limited, Tracktrail Solution, Trailmycar Solutions Limited, and Transport & Lifting Services Limited.
The authority reminded all suppliers that they must obtain clearance from the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS), approval from the Chief Mechanical and Transport Engineer, and licensing from NTSA before engaging in business.
NTSA noted that the complete list of licensed companies and the detailed requirements under KS 372:2019 and KS 2295:2023 can be accessed on the KEBS website.
