As relentless rains and flash floods disrupt communities in Northern Kenya, the Kenya Red Cross has been actively responding to assist those severely impacted by adverse weather conditions.

The continuous rainfall in Kenya's northern counties and the capital, Nairobi, and the port city of Mombasa, has resulted in widespread flooding, displacing approximately 36,000 people and claiming the lives of over 50 persons within less than a month of the rainy season.

Attributed to the El Niño phenomenon, these unusually heavy rains, thunderstorms, and extreme floods follow the worst drought in 40 years. Five consecutive failed rainy seasons have devastated livestock and crops, pushing the region to the brink of famine.
