Duale warns KMPDC against accrediting unqualified medical facilities
Duale said the Council plays a crucial role in ensuring that all Kenyans can access safe and quality healthcare regardless of their age or financial status.
Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has warned the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) against accrediting unqualified and non-compliant medical facilities.
The CS stated that any officer involved in such practices will face consequences.

“It will not be business as usual,” said Duale during his first visit to the KMPDC offices in Nairobi on Tuesday, where he called on the Council to uphold transparency, integrity, and accountability in line with the 2023 Social Health Insurance Act.
Duale said the Council plays a crucial role in ensuring that all Kenyans can access safe and quality healthcare regardless of their age or financial status.
He also stressed the need for services to be delivered only by qualified health professionals.
“Let your operations reflect integrity, transparency, and service to the public,” said Duale as he urged KMPDC to focus on timely service delivery, teamwork, and responsible use of public funds.
The CS pledged the Ministry of Health’s full backing in improving KMPDC’s efficiency and effectiveness through legislative reforms, better resource mobilisation, and enhanced coordination with counties and professional associations.
He also highlighted the Ministry’s Digital Health Agency as an important tool for identifying and taking action against unqualified practitioners. He said this step is vital to protecting the public from poor-quality healthcare.
Medical Services Principal Secretary, Dr. Ouma Oluga, who attended the meeting, said there is a need for a clear framework to assess professional competencies.
He stressed that this will help improve the quality of healthcare and service delivery across the country.
Public Health Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni and Director General for Health Dr. Patrick Amoth also attended the meeting.
KMPDC Chair Prof. Stanley Khainga and CEO Dr. David Kariuki, alongside other senior officials, were present during the visit.
