Family holiday turns tragic as two children drown in Mombasa apartment pool

Family sources confirmed that the children will be buried in Mombasa on Thursday after a post-mortem examination.

A family holiday in Mombasa turned tragic on Wednesday after two children drowned in a swimming pool just hours after arriving from Nairobi.

According to Mombasa County Commissioner Mohamed Noor, the incident occurred at Assia Apartments in Nyali, where the family had booked accommodation.

The children Aisha Mohammed, 13, and Hamdi Mohammed, eight, were among 10 children of Nairobi resident Mohammed Keynan, who had travelled to the coastal city with his wife.

It was reported that at around midday, Mohammed left the apartment with three of his children to buy lunch, leaving the rest of the family at the premises.

While away, he received a distress call from his wife informing him that the two children had drowned in the pool.

The victims were rushed to Gertrude’s Hospital in Mombasa, where they were pronounced dead on arrival.

Their bodies were later moved to Jocham Hospital Mortuary.

Family sources confirmed that the children will be buried in Mombasa on Thursday after a post-mortem examination.
