Scores killed as bus collides with fuel tanker in Busia

Graphic images of bodies burnt beyond recognition have littered social media with rescue teams seeking to put out the fire.
A public service bus and an oil tanker have been involved in an accident at Mundika Trading Centre along Busia-Kisumu Road.
Several people have lost their lives and others were injured after the bus collided with an oil tanker along the Kisumu-Busia highway on Friday.

A response team by police and the Kenya Red Cross have been deployed at the scene and rescue efforts are underway.

According to the Kenya Red Cross, fire erupted after the collision. Busia Governor Paul Otuoma said security agencies have launched investigations to find the cause of the accident.
"As authorities investigate the cause of the accident with a view of taking action, I would like to remind drivers and other road users to always exercise caution to avoid such tragic incidents," he said.
"At this point, I wish to extend my heartfelt condolences to the families of fellow Kenyans who have lost their lives in this tragic road accident in Busia County and wish those in hospital quick recovery."
A comprehensive report from the police and National Road Transport and Safety Authority is awaited over the accident.
