Over 100 traders of Fedha Stage in Embakasi protest 24-hour eviction notice
The eviction has sparked fears of business losses and a bleak future for the affected traders, who claim they did not have adequate time to make alternative arrangements.
Over 100 traders at the Fedha Stage in Embakasi East, Nairobi, decried a 24-hour eviction notice issued on Saturday, December 7.
The eviction has sparked fears of business losses and a bleak future for the affected traders, who claim they did not have adequate time to make alternative arrangements.

The traders disclosed that a private developer is purportedly purchasing the land, registered to the National Oil Corporation.
Robert Maina, one of the traders, said, "We have more than 100 tenants, and yesterday, DCC Eric Mlevu and OCPD Wesley Kimeto gave us a notice of less than 24 hours. They should have provided that eviction notice earlier and given us enough time to relocate."
Maina says the government land registered under the National Oil Corporation is being sold to a private developer who is not willing to give traders time to relocate.
The traders further claim that a few individuals are facilitating the sale of the land, asking the government to intervene and stop the planned demolitions and evictions.
Business owners expressed frustration over the lack of relocation alternatives, leaving them in a precarious position.
"They should follow due diligence and remember there are people here," Ruth Wambui, a trader, added.
Despite threats of demolition, the traders remain defiant, urging the authorities and the supposed private developer to engage them in dialogue.
The traders emphasised that their businesses are not just sources of income but also form the backbone of the estate’s economy, with each enterprise supporting another.
This incident adds to a growing trend of evictions and demolitions in Nairobi to pave the way for development projects. Without a clear relocation plan, the traders argue, such actions disrupt livelihoods and erode community stability.
