Former IEBC commissioner Boya Molu among eight nominees being vetted for PSC jobs

Former IEBC commissioner Boya Molu is among eight nominees who are appearing before the National Assembly's Departmental Committee on Labour today (Thursday) for vetting.
The committee will assess the qualifications of the nominees seeking to join the Public Service Commission (PSC), a key body responsible for overseeing the recruitment, promotions, and discipline of civil servants in Kenya.

Others nominated by the president are Mary Kimonye for vice-chairperson, while Harun Maalim, Mwanamaka Amani, Francis Meja, Irene Asienga, Joan Andisi, and Francis Owino were nominated as members of the commission.

The committee, chaired by Runyenjes MP Eric Karemba, will review the nominees and later write a report for consideration by the National Assembly.
Boya Molu is known for his role as an IEBC commissioner during the 2022 presidential election.
He stood with the former chairperson of the electoral body, Wafula Chebukati, during the standoff over the presidential results at Bomas of Kenya.
Boya, alongside Abdi Guliye, played a crucial role during the announcement of Ruto as President after some commissioners, led by then-vice chairperson Juliana Cherera, rejected the final outcome.
The results showed that Ruto had narrowly defeated Azimio candidate Raila Odinga in the hotly contested presidential poll.
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula has already convened a special sitting on Thursday next week, January 16, 2025, to consider the nominations.
In a notice dated January 8, Wetang'ula stated that the decision to recall MPs was made following a request by the National Assembly's Leader of Majority, Kimani Ichung'wah.
"Now therefore, it is hereby notified to all members of the National Assembly and the general public that Thursday, January 16, 2025, has been appointed as a day for special sittings of the National Assembly," it read.
Other nominees include Amani, a former principal secretary in the Ministry of Public Service and Gender Affairs, and Owino, who previously served in the same capacity at the Department of Youth.
Meja served as the National Transport and Safety Authority boss, while Maalim is the executive director of the National Council for Persons with Disabilities.
