“Kebs wishes to issue an alert regarding the rise of individuals purporting to be Kebs staff. These individuals, who frequently target retail environments such as shops, supermarkets, and hardware stores, initially claim to be affiliated with Kebs,” it said.
According to Kebs, when these individuals are confronted, they often alter their claim, “suggesting they are part of a 'multi-agency' team".
Further, the culprits are said to engage in extortion, targeting traders across the country.
The public was advised to be extra-cautious and always ask for the identity of any individuals purporting to be their staff before engaging in any activities with them.
“Always ask for the staff card and national ID, and send an SMS with the format HR#Staff Number to 20023. You will receive a confirmation message with details including the Kebs HR No, staff's name, position, ID number, and status,” it said.
Kebs further told businesspeople to report suspicious individuals or activities, via toll-free line: 1545, phone number 0206948000, and the email address [email protected].
“Your vigilance and cooperation are crucial in helping us maintain integrity and service quality. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any information that can assist in this matter,” it added.
Keb's role is to ensure goods and services conform to standards, a role which is pivotal to enhancing the quality of life.
