Cabinet Secretaries across various ministries have made fresh appointments in the latest round of government appointments, with new entrants Mutahi Kagwe and Lee Kinyanjui among those making key decisions.

Agriculture Cabinet Secretary (CS) Mutahi Kagwe, just a day after being sworn into office, made a series of appointments in a bid to streamline operations within his ministry.

According to a gazette notice published on January 17, 2025, Kagwe appointed five new members to the National Livestock Development and Promotion Service (NLDPS).

The new members appointed to NLDPS for a three-year term include Hassan Roba, Erukudi Ekustan, Aloise Loitomaga, Ubah Ibrahim, and Justinie Rakita.

Additionally, Kagwe appointed Adhan Sheikh Abdullahi as a member of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Sugar Board for a three-year term.

At the same time, newly appointed Trade and Investments CS Lee Kinyanjui made his first key appointment, naming Allan Kosgey as the non-executive chairperson of the Board of the Kenya Industrial Property Institute.

Kosgey, who will serve for three years, is known for his past role as Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) in the State Law Office, as well as his current position as treasurer of the Law Society of Kenya.

The CAS position was disbanded after being declared unconstitutional.

In the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry, CS Aden Duale made four new appointments to the Ministerial Audit Committee.

The new appointees include Scola Kimeli, Douglas Owiti, Kasambeli Wafula, and Martha Wambui. Kimeli will serve as the Chairperson of the committee for a three-year term.

Treasury CS John Mbadi also made two notable appointments. He reappointed Odongo Mark Okeyo as a member of the Council of the Competition Tribunal, and Bernard Kanyago as the secretary of the Insurance Appeals Tribunal, both for a three-year term.

In the Ministry of Education, CS Julius Migos Ogamba appointed Mumo Kisau and Charles Ogalo as members of the Council of the National Defence University-Kenya. They will serve for three years.

Energy CS Opiyo Wandayi appointed Bob Ndubi to the Board of the National Oil Corporation of Kenya. Ndubi's term will last for three years.

Finally, Cooperative CS Wycliffe Oparanya made an important change by appointing George Mwangi Maina to the Board of Directors of the SACCO Societies Regulatory Authority. Maina's appointment led to the revocation of Timothy Kihara Ngure's previous appointment to the same position, and he will serve for three years.
