Rongo MP arrested by EACC detectives over alleged Sh122m graft

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on Thursday arrested Rongo Member of Parliament Paul Odalo over alleged conflict of interest and theft of public funds.

According to the detectives of the anti-graft agency, the lawmaker was arrested because of the award of tenders worth Shh122 million by the Rongo National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) to companies linked with him during the Financial Year 2017/2018 to 2024/2025.

Investigation reports released by the agency indicate that the besieged lawmaker, together with his relative registered a private company for which they issued a tender for the construction of classrooms and drilling of boreholes worth Sh122 million.

"The Ethics and Anti-Commission Commission (EACC) confirms that today, Thursday, January 23, 2025, the Commission conducted a successful Investigative operation targeting the Member of Parliament (MP) for Rongo Constituency Hon. Paul Odalo Mark, who is under investigation for alleged conflict of interest and theft of public funds. This is in relation to the award of tenders worth Sh122 million by the Rongo National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) to companies associated with him during the Financial Year (FY) 2017/2018 to 2004/2005," EACC stated.

"Following the operation, the suspect was arrested and brought to EACC Headquarters at Integrity Centre where he is currently recording a statement."

The MP, before his swift arrest had planned a press briefing with journalists alongside his fellow lawmakers at Parliament Buildings.

It is not known what his message was but a press invite seen by The Eastleigh Voice shows that he had planned to give an address over EACC's move to investigate him over alleged graft claims levelled against him.
